HOPE . . .
“I’ve always dreamed of being an advocate for young girls. In an effort to help the young girls in my community, I’ve recently coordinated the PROM project (PROM; Producing Rare Outstanding Memories). I wanted to give girls who cannot afford a prom dress a chance to experience a magical moment by providing them one. Thanks to some wonderful friends and giving hearts I have acquired several prom dresses and accessories. Because I am continuously being blessed, I am able to pay it forward and help who I can.”
One of our ATLAS friends, Tasheka Redd, coordinated Project PROM on Saturday, April 14th. There was such an outpouring of love from Tasheka along with three other ATLAS friends, Passion, Shawanda and Valerie that by the end of the day, 13 young ladies showed up and were able to get beautiful dresses. Passion served as photographer, Valerie as chief encourager and Shawanda was the best personal shopper ever! Tasheka worked non-stop to make sure each girl had a chance to not only get a dress, but the opportunity to pick and choose the best dress for her.
Tasheka went above and beyond with this project. She formed relationships with young women in the community as well as their mothers. Project Prom also helped to fulfill one of Tasheka’s personal goals of helping young teenage girls. She worked tirelessly to get dresses donated in preparation for this great day. Her prayers and hard work were transformed into a blessing for 13 young girls. At the end of the day Tasheka summed it up best when she told us “God has been so good to me, I may not have a lot but I thank God for what I have and I want to be able to share and bless someone else”. This was not just a dream for Tasheka, this was a calling from God and she answered. In the Experiencing God Bible Study, Henry Blackaby urges us to “find out where God is working and join Him”. Tasheka did just that!
